5 simple tips on how to start blogging

So, you want to blog.

When I started my blogging journey, I had no idea what it would lead to and if it was for me. Turns out it is totally for me, and for you. If you have anything to say then you can blog. Writing doesn’t come easily to me, but as they say, practice makes perfect! I’m dyslexic, so I do struggle with writing and putting posts together. Each time I write a new post, I feel I’m getting better and better at it. If I can do it. You can too. I know that sounds so cheesy. I’m serious though.

This is a few tips on how you can start your blogging journey.

What’s your niche?

Why do you want to start blogging? Do you have something to say? This is where you would start. Once you have decided what you going to say to your readers, then you can start moving forward.

Pick a name.

Pick a name that you think will work for what you want to do. You can use your kid’s names or maybe a made up name. Or a name that has something to do with what you are interested in.

Choose your blogging site.

My preferred platform is WordPress. It’s easy to navigate on the computer as well as the mobile. Decide whether you want to have your own hosted site or be linked with someone like WordPress. This means you either have a website name like www.hackingparenthood.co.uk (self-hosted through Bluehost)
or it would be www.hackingparenthood.wordpress.co.uk. (WordPress hosted). I began my journey with WordPress and then went self-hosted. When you do go self-hosted, you are still able to edit your website through WordPress. If you can, do it. This will help when you want to start earning money with your blog.

Social media is important.

Start your social media account with the name you have chosen. The best ones would be Facebook, twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. This is where you will share your content and create a following that will drive viewers to your website. This is the best way to increase traffic to your website. Linking your Facebook to your twitter or Visa-Versa is a great way to make sure you don’t neglect one or the other. This usually happen when you have a preferred social media account.

Domain Authority and other scores.

This was something that I had no idea about. Now that I do, you need to know about them too. Domain Authority is a score (on a 100-point scale) developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engines. This score is only done on self-hosted websites. Another score that is applicable is your Klout.com score. This is a score that is based on how active you are in social media. I also use www.rise.com to check my parent blogger score. Just sign up to these websites and this will help you on your way to becoming the blogger you want to be. These sites are great ways to find out where you are at within the blogging community.
