My one selfish problem with being vegan in 2018 -Hacking Parenthood

Vegan is popular now and I love that it is.

There is one problem. When I first became vegan, I had to stop eating a lot of my favourite things.

Either due to the fact that it wasn’t available as vegan, too far away in a tiny little shop or it was too expensive to buy. Things like cakes and other sweet vegan treats, microwave meals, etc.

Now with veganism being something that many people are choosing, this means our local shops are filling up with assorts of tasty, sugary treats.

The ones I have been happily avoiding due to them not being vegan. Now they’re vegan! it’s so hard to say no. I mostly do.

Ever since I went vegan, I loved the fact that I would eat mainly healthily. I feel healthy for it. Trying not to resort to my old ways of eating I try to ignore most of the new products in the shops.

Ice-creams, microwave dinners, crisps, shortbread, brownies, sweets… They’re all now vegan. See my favourite places in Brighton to prove my point.

I almost wish they weren’t. The catch 22 is that these products are helping other people finally try and achieve being vegan. People can actually do it and they are doing it.

If I had to explain to someone what I eat, it would be a plant-based and whole food diet. Mostly fruit, vegetables and legumes. This is the diet that is scientifically based to help prevent many of the biggest killers in today’s society. Diabetes, heart disease, food-based cancers and the list goes on.

This is why I loved not having many options in the shops. Now I do and I feel like I’m missing out on the hype of veganism.

I will and do give myself a few treats just to test out some of the new products that are in our local shops, but I’m going to stick to my diet as I know I thrive on it.

You only need to do a little bit of research to find out reasons why eating a plant-based diet is so beneficial. Once you open your mind to change and start to understand how meat and dairy are ruining our bodies, you can not look back. Your future starts to be in your own hands. Food is the core of elderly health. I eat for my future, not for the present.

So as much as I am enjoying seeing more and more vegans appear especially since supermarkets and restaurants have more vegan-friendly food items, I worry that processed food is still going to be a problem for many people. People who struggle with health with still not have a clear answer as to how to stay healthy.

Vegans can be unhealthy. maybe we should spread the plant-based diet amongst vegans rather than the copy of the original diet.
