Make your own vegan vapour rub. -Hacking Parenthood

So my little one has a cough and I usually use a vapour rub for easy breathing and feeling better. Naturally, I want to use the same for my little one.

I went to go buy some Vicks, thinking they should have some good ingredients in it. Nope. Petroleum jelly, turpentine oil. That just sounds wrong. It is wrong, there are better ingredients that can be used than the ones Vicks use. I understand the amazing benefits of Vicks but have you really looked at the ingredients list properly. It’s basically a natural remedy, not medical in any way. The company just uses the base of some questionable ingredient.

The magic ingredient to the well-known vapour rub is eucalyptus, this is the oil that can help you breathe and clear your passages quickly. Use sparing on little ones.

Looking through Pinterest, I found a couple of recipes. They all have pretty similar ingredients for a vegan rub as many of the recipes called for beeswax. There is no need to use animal products when you can find perfectly good alternatives.

So here’s one to make your own vegan vapour rub.

a metal bowl with coconut oil and olive oil on, a jar and three essential oil bottles, eucalyptus, tea tree and peppermint.

1/4 cup of coconut oil

1T of extra-virgin olive oil

20 drops of eucalyptus oil

20 drops of peppermint oil

20 drops of tea tree/lavender/Rosemary oil

Mix all the ingredients in a little bowl, then spoon it into a glass container with a lid. Apply when needed.

Always try use natural alternatives, for things like this. There is always an alternative to the big companies, just have a look, and it is usually cheaper.
