It has happened, we have begun our long term travel.
We begin our journey spending some time with our family before we head off to Italy to begin our Europe part of our journey. We have left our flat so have planned each family stay so that we have a place to stay until we need to catch our plane to Italy. This has also be a great way for us to start preparing our backpacks and eating used to what we have before we get on the plane.
The last day in our flat was a bit of a rush as we wanted to be out and ready to go with our backpacks. As usual, time flies when you really need to get things done. Our landlady came earlier than expected but she was more than happy to give us a bit of time to rush around and gather the last things and sweep and mop the house ready for her to rent it to the next person.
We were so rush off our feet that we could only hope that we had everything. Once we had got everything out of the house we realised that because we rushed the packing of our bags, that we had far too much stuff to carry and the plan to take the train to Salisbury was looking a bit more difficult than planned. Luckily, my husbands step dad offered to drive us to Salisbury instead which we were very grateful for.
All we have is what we carry. Most of what we carry are our camping equipment and the bags are quite heavy.
It’s a very funny feeling to leave the place we have lived for the past 4 years. It was also the place where my daughter was born which makes it a little harder.
We spent around 2 months of intense sorting and selling of our stuff, planning visits to friends and family and keeping to some sort of routine for my daughter. It was a very stressful time for all concerned but once we left we all felt really good and ready for this massive adventure.

Getting rid of many of our things that we have acquired was so refreshing. They are right that once you completely minimalist, that your mind has time for other things and starts to feel clearer and more focused.
We are so excited to share this journey with you, all our readers, and can’t wait to share our stories of the ups and downs. Maybe even meet up with some of you on your own long term travel.
